We’ve Arrived!

by Gabriella Isais | June 15, 2024 11:01 PM

We have arrived to New Community Church in Dolton, IL. We are so excited to serve the community this week! We will be helping at the Free N’ Deed Market which is a local food pantry, leading Vacation Bible School at the church, and helping at the local park district.

A Crew You Can Count On

by Gabriella Isais | June 16, 2024 5:14 PM

We had a wonderful time at New Community Church’s service this morning. Pastor Chris Dod (pictured front and center) gave a wonderful sermon about the importance of having a Godly Community- a crew you can count on.

Father’s Day and Juneteenth Celebration

by Gabriella Isais | June 16, 2024 5:17 PM

After church we did a prayer walk at the different ministries we will be partnering with this week and then headed to a neighboring park district in Harvey. The Harvey park district was hosting a Father’s Day and Juneteenth celebration! They had live music, bouncy houses, food, ice cream, and snow cones!

Happy Father’s Day

by Gabriella Isais | June 16, 2024 10:25 PM

We wanted to do something special to celebrate the father in our group, Irv, so the team took him out for ice cream at Baskin Robbins! We are so thankful for all fathers, especially our heavenly one! Happy Father’s Day to all the dads!

The Wonderful Dr. Scott

by Gabriella Isais | June 17, 2024 5:44 PM

We had the opportunity to meet and hear from Dr. Nicole Scott! Dr. Scott is a part of the American Association of Single Parents (AASP). Through the AASP, she runs the Free N’ Deed Market which is a local food pantry, the Abba Center, and the Academics Creating Excellence (ACE) program. Dr. Scott was able to come and share a bit about the programs and the Abba center along with her own personal testimony. We are so grateful for her partnership and are so excited to work alongside her this week!

Free N’ Deed Market

by Gabriella Isais | June 17, 2024 5:50 PM

Part of the team was able to help out at the Free N’ Deed (FND) market which is a local food pantry in Dolton. The market is open Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday and residents of the area are allowed to come and shop for free food every 30 days! FND’s goal is to ensure that every customer has dignity in their “shopping experience. Today we unloaded shipments of food and stocked the shelves so that the store is ready for distribution tomorrow!

Abba Center

by Gabriella Isais | June 17, 2024 5:52 PM

After helping out at the market, part of the team helped move chairs and desks upstairs and started clearing out a room so that next week’s team can start putting up dry wall! Some of the boys had a competition to see who could carry the most chairs! No students were harmed!

Food Pantry Distribution

by Gabriella Isais | June 18, 2024 11:01 PM

We were able to help at the Free N’ Deed Market with food distribution today! The market, which ran from 9am-1pm, allows any resident of Cook County to come and shop for free food every 30 days! Folks started lining up as early as 4am. The Lord is doing amazing things in this community and through this program!  The pantry will be closed tomorrow for Juneteenth but will open again on Thursday!

Baby Room Sorting!

by Gabriella Isais | June 18, 2024 11:04 PM

The other part of our team was able to continue sorting and organizing the new baby room which will also be located at the Free N’ Deed market! Parents can come and shop for free items for them and their little ones! Some of the items include: clothing, toys, diapers, car seats, strollers, formula, nursing bras, and bottles!

Currency Exchange Cleaning

by Gabriella Isais | June 18, 2024 11:06 PM

One of the rooms in the Abba Center used to be a currency exchange! Some of us started cleaning and clearing out the old currency exchange of any items left behind. We even got to keep some items we found including fake $100 bills and a tie!

Professional Shelf Stockers

by Gabriella Isais | June 19, 2024 11:13 PM

Today was our last day helping at the Free N’ Deed Market. We were able to help unload the shipment trucks full of food and stock shelves. We had a blast this week helping at the pantry and we are sad to say goodbye to Dr. Scott and the food pantry staff.

Acorns and Wet Wipes

by Gabriella Isais | June 19, 2024 11:18 PM

The second half of the team came in the afternoon and we were able to clear all these boxes from another room. We moved the boxes, full of acorn decor and wet wipes into the closet of the old currency exchange located in the Abba Center, which used to be a strip mall. The room that we cleared will be turned into a long-term relief office that will help individuals who are suffering from crisis.

The Baby Room

by Gabriella Isais | June 19, 2024 11:23 PM

Lorien and Haylie were our head girls when it came to the baby room. They designed, organized, and sorted this entire room. The baby room is located within the Free N’ Deed food pantry and will be open for families to come and grab free items for their little ones!

The Bean

by Gabriella Isais | June 20, 2024 10:26 PM

Today we had the opportunity to explore downtown Chicago! We stopped by the famous Bean, which is actually named Cloud Gate by the artist. Unfortunately, the Bean was under construction, so this was the closest we could get.

Navy Pier

by Gabriella Isais | June 20, 2024 10:47 PM

We had a great time exploring Navy Pier today! Navy Pier has rides such as a Ferris wheel and a merry-go-round, souvenir shops, a children’s museum, art exhibits, a beach on Lake Michigan, and a beautiful view of the city! Unfortunately, it was quite foggy today and we were not able to see the skyline as clearly.
