Glenkirk Church Student Missions

PPM staff team is ready for the team to arrive! It's going to be an amazing week! 

We arrived on a later flight this evening, so our first stop was Zippy's, a local favorite. We ate chicken, hamburgers, rice, macaroni salad and more! Next stop: the hotel for some sleep before church tomorrow. 

Our host church for the week welcomed us warmly! The service was Spirit filled and energetic! We're just starting to experience this beautiful local culture and learn what it means to be Hawaiian and a follower of Jesus. 

We stopped at a local food truck area for lunch after church! Variety means we all got what we wanted! Yum! 

Our host pastor gave us a lesson on the local culture and what it means to serve, especially in regard to missions in Maui. It was challenging and beautiful. 

We divided into a few different groups today, and some of us put a fresh coat of paint on the church building. This church has housing attached for the pastor and family, as well as several families who serve the church. 

Half of our team went up to the hills to help clear brush and trees. This is necessary for several reasons, including keeping waterways/drainages open and fire mitigation. The trees are turned into wood chips, and then used to prevent erosion and encourage healthy plant growth. 

Pastor Greg showed us a special area of the State Park that has cultural and geographic significance. The three mountains represent the Trinity, and the river brings new life. We sang worship songs, and then took a dip in the fresh water river.
