I Was raised in a Christian home nestled in the cool southern hills of Trelawny. My parents were Methodist and ensured that all their children were brought up on solid Christian principles. Both my parents sang in the choir and as the years progressed my mother grew tremendously in her faith and became a lay leader and preacher in her local church and church district. I was always with my mother and desired to emulate her in all she did. My first experience of salvation was on a glorious Sunday morning while singing one of those soul-stirring hymns I felt my heart strangely warm but never understood as I was only a child. Becoming a young adult I strayed a big but never lost the love and fear of God. Until one Sunday night, I heard the gospel message preached on the radio in 1991 when I surrendered my life and made up my mind to live for Jesus. I got baptized in June of that year and two years later I experienced what it is to receive the baptism of the Holy Ghost with the evidence of speaking with other tongues. Soon after I noted that deep desire to read and study the word and I did. I knew that I wanted to serve in the ministry, however, not to be a pastor. For years I was active in church, being Youth President, member of the Women’s Ministry choir, exhorting and preaching in my local church. The Lord appeared to me in my dream and asked me; “have you gotten your training yet?” I said no. Then he said, “You need to get your training so you can teach them.” I did nothing about that then one morning on my way to work, I heard in my spirit, “lovest thou me more than these, feed my sheep.” As time progressed not knowing what to do with these information, one Sunday I heard that a Bethel Bible College contingent was coming to church. After listening to their offerings I decided to sign up for the one year certificate program. Upon completion, and preparing for graduation again the Holy Spirit spoke, “mother college.” I was dumb trucked while expressing, “me God.” Of course I tried to reason it away, with my daughter at university and having bills to pay as I was instructed to resign my job. As I contended with God he gave me a financial plan that included moving away from where I lived and going back to the family house to start a chicken-raring business with the help of my siblings. God kept me through the four years of college and today I’m on my 2nd pastorate. While pastoring is challenging it is the most fulfilling job. I feel such a sense of gratitude that God could have chosen me to labor in the field of souls. I’m passionate and humbled by such a privilege.
